The study of the Iris
Over Thanksgiving, I decided to see an Iridologist that also specialized in active release therapy. Now, I was defiantly a little confused at first. I just assumed it was an eye doctor mixed with a massage therapist. And to my surprise, I was wrong. Now, being of this day in age where doctors will give you every and any pill known to man to “help” an issue in your body, I get overly excited about alternative medicines and there practices. I even decided to get certified as an Herbologist just for that same reason.
What is Iridology you ask? Well, it is the natural therapy that studies the iris to reflect human health and susceptibility to disease. “The eyes don’t lie” is an old folklore saying that just may be right! The iris is the colorful portion of the eye that surrounds the pupil. Every fiber, color, pattern, and defect in the iris is believed to have a correlation with organs and/or systems. There are charts and maps that help with this process.
Now, Iridolgy is used more for aid in changing ones lifestyle, adding a mineral or vitamin, or allowing the person to seek professional help if needed. It is not used as treatment. It is used to find toxin and their location, stages of inflammation, weaknesses and strengths, and deficiencies. Looking at the color, rings and/or spots in the iris does this.
Active Release therapy is a soft movement based technique that is used to restore the smooth movement of tissue and to release any trapped nerves or blood vessels. AKA.. pushing on all those extremely sensitive areas until you sweat and stick to the table. Good for migraines to by the way!!
Now, going into this visit I knew that I was already having some issues. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis over 5 years ago and have been dealing with the 4 to 6 pills a day for awhile until I decided that I had enough. Changing to a plant based diet , exercise and herbs have helped for some time now, but there are still those days.
So being a vegan, my “Doc” accesses my situation before we even began. Vitamin B12, C, and D deficiency and lack of probiotics was his guess. Well, to our surprise, none of those come from my iris reading! Take that doc! After releasing all the trapped and tense blood vessels in my feet and shoulders, my muscles felt amazing!
Stress! My spots and inflammation areas were all based on stress. Sounds about right if I may say.
I walked out with a bottle of shitake mushroom and a detox plan with a new look on life. Perhaps I shall dabble a bit in the world of Iridology one day!
